Finding Virgin River by Robyn Carr was a gift that arrived exactly when I needed it most. Shortly before relocating to Nebraska, my husband and I experienced a miscarriage. While we did not plan on having kids, and we had no idea we were expecting at the time until it was too late...it was still a very difficult chapter for us.

A few months after this event and once I was settled into my new home in the Midwest, I discovered this novel. Needless to say that I instantly fell in love with the characters. I could relate so much to Mel and what she was going through as she arrived in Virgin River to find a beautiful place full of promise and yet so foreign from what she knew. I especially loved how she grieved through her losses and slowly allowed her work, the land, and her new friends to help her heal. Ultimately, this novel felt like a cozy blanket that I could snuggle up to while I did some healing of my own.

If you are looking for a beautiful romance novel with complex characters that are trying to find happiness and overcome loss, while navigating the twist and turns of life...then seriously consider Virgin River.

When the recently widowed Melinda Monroe sees this ad, she quickly decides that the remote mountain town of Virgin River might be the perfect place to escape her heartache, and to reenergize the nursing career she loves. But her high hopes are dashed within an hour of arriving: the cabin is a dump, the roads are treacherous and the local doctor wants nothing to do with her. Realizing she's made a huge mistake, Mel decides to leave town the following morning.

But a tiny baby, abandoned on a front porch, changes her plans…
