LORE

I kicked off Women’s History Month by binge reading a story with a strong female lead- Lore by Alexandra Bracken.

As a lover of mythology, I was ecstatic when I received this novel through my Owlcrate subscription.

In this world the Gods have been punished by Zeus who has cursed them by making them mortal during a period called the Agon. The Agon takes place every 7 years for a week and during this time the Gods are hunted by mortals of select bloodlines. If the Gods perish during this week then the killer gains their new power and becomes the new God.

For centuries the bloodlines have competed to gain these abilities, but Lore, the last of her bloodline and last descendant of Perseus, has managed to escape this world...that is until a dying Athena shows up at her doorstep and asks her to bind their fates.

What ensues is one of the most epic and creative stories I have ever read. Lore is a strong female lead who has us rooting for her as she grapples with her destiny, attempts to overcome past demons, vanquishes new foes, and learns to fight for what is truly meaningful in life.

While there is a lot of world building and mythology info dump, the story is hard to put down since it picks up and doesn’t stop until the very last page. Every new chapter had me begging for more as new questions were explored and twists where encountered at every corner. The message at the core of this book is beautiful and it makes the ending that much more rewarding.

I highly recommend checking out Lore, especially if you are a fan of Greek mythology and strong female leads.
