Ever since I was young, I have loved reading dark short stories and poems like those written by Edgar Allen Poe.

So I was thrilled when my parents introduced me to the writings of Horacio Quiroga. Not only was he an amazing Latin American author and playwright, but he also wrote dark and macabre stories.
He had such a tragic life and drew inspiration from these events to tell stories that are creepy and ultimately get under your skin.
While I read his works in Spanish, most of them have been translated into English and compiled into easy to find anthologies. If you like dark, twisted stories definitely check out Tales of Love, Madness, and Death by Horacio Quiroga.
