Trying something new in the age of COVID...

Welcome!!
I started this blog as a way to put pen to paper (metaphorically) and share my thoughts. This is just a flowery way of saying that I am casually blogging about books I read because I recently relocated from Orlando to a 250 acre farm in the middle of Nebraska and have 0 people to talk books with. This year was full of challenges and events that made us reconsider our values, our prejudices, our privilege, and our place in the world.
Despite the fact that I've always read diverse books, I realized that I had significant blind spots when it came to my choice in literature. Even though I grew up with parents who encouraged me to read Latin lit, supported my love of European lit, and had professors who introduced me to wonderful American and foreign lit, I know that a lot of diversity has not found its was to my bookshelves. For this reason, I am challenging myself to read outside of my comfort zone in order to grow. I am making it my missions to read across genres, to find authors whose voices/lives/stories/struggles are different from mine, and to support literary voices who are underrepresented in our world. This does not mean that I won't be reading and reviewing those sappy love stories or the new fun fantasy books, but rather that I will read all those plus the books that challenge me to grow. During these times of great uncertainty, it feels unnatural to run from comfort and towards change...and yet it feels fundamentally necessary.
Therefore, I have started this blog to share my thoughts and feelings on books and to try to extract knowledge from every book I read to supplemental my journey of growth. If you are interested in some honest book reviews, book debates, or even looking for suggestions on what to read next please stick around with my blog and follow me on Instagram (@shelf_1ndulgence).
In the meantime, I will keep posting my thoughts into this internet void to keep me tethered to reality and accountable to my words during these trying times.
